NGIatlantic.eu launches its 2nd Open Call

NGIatlantic.eu is excited to open the second of 5 Open Calls for proposals with an overall budget of 2.8 million Euro. European organisations can use this funding to carry out research & innovation activities in collaboration with US counterparts on NGI experimental platforms. The purpose is to incentivize collaboration between EU and US research teams to meet the technical challenges posed by the vision of a more human-centric, Next Generation Internet.

The POWDER Platform - Next-generation Wireless Research in a City-Scale Living Lab

The main goal of the NGIatlantic.eu Open Calls is to incentivize EU – US NGI teams to carry out experiments using EU and/or US based experimental platforms. The POWDER Platform (the Platform for Open Wireless Data-driven Experimental Research) is a facility for experimentation where researchers can carry out real-world experimentation on next-generation wireless networking in a city-scale “living laboratory”.

NGIatlantic.eu: insights from the results of the first Open Call

One month after closure, the evaluation phase of the first NGIatlantic.eu Open Call is almost complete, which will select the winning projects from the 21 submitted proposals to be announced shortly. The unexpectedly high response to the first open call demonstrates a tremendous interest in transatlantic collaboration in NGI from SMEs and R&D actors alike throughout Europe and the US.

The COSMOS platform: at-scale experimentation of novel advanced wireless broadband in dense urban environment

The main goal of the NGIatlantic.eu Open Calls is to incentivize EU – US NGI teams to carry out experiments using EU and/or US based experimental platforms. An example of these types of platforms is COSMOS - Cloud enhanced Open Software defined MObile wireless testbed for city-Scale deployment.

The 30-months project NGIatlantic.eu will push the Next Generation Internet a step further by providing cascade funding to EU-based researchers and innovators in carrying out Next Generation Internet related experiments in collaboration with US research teams.
